Noted cricket administrator Jyoti Bajpai was one of the towering figure in the world of sports in India. A member of The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), he during his lifetime held many important posts like Treasurer, Joint Secretary in the BCCI.
Hailing from Kanpur, Jyoti Bajpai played an immense role in the development of the sport in Uttar Pradesh. He enjoyed cordial relations with who's who of cricket world. He was credited with bringing some big matches to Kanpur's Green Park stadium and for honing local talent. Bajpai was the joint secretary of the Board from 1997 to 2003 and was the honorary treasurer from 2003 to 2005. He was also appointed Manager of the Indian cricket team for the 2003 ICC World Cup in which Indians reached the final for the first time since their 1983 triumph, only to lose to Australia in the title match. Keeping unwell for a long time, Bajpai passed away on 14th June 2017 at his home died in Kanpur. Many prominent personalities took to Twitter to extend their condolences.
“Bajpai played an immense role in the development of the sport in Uttar Pradesh in his roles as the honorary secretary and director of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) for many years,” said the BCCI in a statement.

Acting President, CK Khanna, said, "I offer my heartfelt condolences on the passing away of Mr. Jyoti Bajpai. We have lost a great cricket administrator. I have had the privilege to work with him in the Board. Our thoughts are with his family."
